Missions Ministry - Kim FamilyThis week, please pray for Drs. Lloyd and Eda Kim and their children (Kaelyn, Christian, and Katy). The Kims serve with Mission to the World in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, working in the areas of theological education, church-planting, and mercy ministries. Though the family is currently in the U.S. on “home ministry assignment” (HMA), Lloyd is still traveling and teaching in Thailand, Nepal, and other Asian nations.
He writes: “It has been about five years since we began our partnership with the Presbyterian Church of [closed country]. This past March, Luke S., Daniel P., and I went to join one of our intensive one-week training sessions in [closed country]. Luke taught on the Gospel of John to the B.Th students and I taught Synoptic Gospels and Acts to the Associate B.Th students. Daniel came for moral support, to take some amazing pictures, and enjoy some good pho.
“What was particularly encouraging about my class of about 25 students was the diversity of ministries with which they were involved: many were from tribal groups seeking further training to minister to their congregations. One student was praying about going to another SE Asian country as a missionary. Others wanted to begin ministries in the north of the country. God seems to be moving the network of churches in areas we could never have imagined.
“Another great encouragement was the sense of unity we shared with our national partner in bringing more structure to this young Presbyterian denomination. We will be helping to draft a constitution, by-laws, standing rules, etc. In addition, we will also help bring more structure to the Bible School (which runs the training) in establishing a board, raising some funds, and drafting some policies.
“It is an exciting time in the growth of this young denomination. What a privilege and responsibility it is to be a part of its developing history.”
The Kims ask you to pray…
1. That God would give us spiritual, physical, and emotional rest we need before we return to Cambodia in June. Pray also for the transition back to the field – for quick language acquisition, reconnecting with old friends and colleagues, and adjustment to our ministry roles.
2. For our team, that God would bring unity in spirit, ministry philosophy, and vision [and] continue to cultivate an atmosphere of grace and Gospel-centered living.
3. For the development of the young denomination in [closed country] as they bring more structure and form to their network of churches. Pray that there would be a deep commitment to the Reformed faith, spirit of grace, and for strong mature leadership among the elders.
